Joe Crouch - cello

Joe Crouch

Joseph Crouch began his musical education as a chorister at Westminster Abbey, and was later a Choral Scholar at King’s College, Cambridge. Here he first gained a love for early music through constant exposure to choral repertoire of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. He went on to study Baroque Cello as a postgraduate at The Royal Academy of Music, under Jennifer Ward Clarke.

After graduating, Joe completed his training as a member of The European Union Baroque Orchestra. This gave him opportunities to perform in regions not normally associated with grand concert tours, such as the Balkans and the Baltic States, as well as the grander European venues; at the same time it opened his eyes to different “schools” of baroque playing – certainly as much a feature of the twenty-first as of the eighteenth century.

Joseph’s schedule now centres around his chamber group, Sonnerie, and his orchestral work with The Gabrieli Consort, The Classical Opera Company, The Early Opera Company, The King’s Consort and The Academy of Ancient Music, for whom he is the principal cellist.
